CONTINUE TO CHAPTER FOUR: The Cost

Recommendations

In March 2001, the Governor's Select Task Force on Election Procedures, Standards and Technology released a report with 35 recommendations on how to improve Florida’s elections process. Seven of those recommendations called for action from each of the supervisors of election in the state’s 67 counties.
The recommendations called for:

  • establishing minimum standards for voter education
  • providing adequate funding for voter education
  • creating and publishing a Voter’s Bill of Rights and Responsibilities
  • Recruiting more qualified poll workers
  • Improving precinct communications
  • Providing voter comment cards and suggestion boxes
  • Opening the manual recount process to the public

To gauge which recommendations were adopted, the Collins Center sent a survey to each supervisor. Forty of the 67 supervisors answered the survey. Scroll over the map to read about changes in those counties.
