Gateway to the Everglades

The LORI tourism and marketing committee was established to build a brand and marketing plan to promote the southern shores of Lake Okeechobee. The three counties are Glades, Hendry and western Palm Beach counties including the cities of Moore Haven, Clewiston, South Bay, Belle Glade and Pahokee.

The committee has been meeting since March 2010 to develop the goals, objectives and marketing strategy to reach the audiences outlined below.

Target Audiences

  • Winter residents of Florida especially in communities around the lake
  • Floridians who live in major metro areas within a two-hour drive(Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, Lee, Collier, Sarasota and Manatee)
  • Nature lovers, bird watchers, fishermen and all outdoor enthusiasts
  • Urban dwellers 35-55 who seek peace from a stressful work week

 

Overall Goals and Objectives

  • Increase tourism and hotel revenue
  • Drive new economic development
  • Develop region as a rural tourism destination
  • Establish a regional tourism committee

 

Marketing Objectives

  • Create brand awareness of Big Water
  • Increase attendance at attractions, festivals and events
  • Grow target audience engagement with region
  • Drive traffic to Web site
