Healthcare Reform Study Highlights Benefits, Challenges

A new report released by the Collins Center for Public Policy looks beyond the pitched battles over health care reform and instead offers a comprehensive review of the new federal law and its potential impact on Florida.

Recent court rulings clouded the Affordable Care Act's future. But for now it remains federal law, and its main features could be in place in 2014. The report, "Making the Investments Work: Important Benefits and Key Challenges in Implementing Health Reform in Florida," examines the how the law would affect Floridians and business large and small, and how the state and health care industry should prepare for its possible implementation. We seek to position the Collins Center -- in Florida and the nation -- as a sought-after source of reliable information and analyses regarding promising practices and policies that improve access to timely and quality healthcare for all. In these efforts, there is the opportunity to redefine how Florida thinks about health and investments that are necessary to achieve community well-being.

Goal: The goal of Health Initiatives is to highlight both evidence-based best practices and disentangle policy choices around health investments and healthcare access. A corollary goal is to help contribute to understanding of the issues so that the public can effectively engage in the debates and contribute to the decision-making.
