Black cows waded in the muddy water of a long ditch that ran through Buck Island Ranch near Lake Placid.It sure didn't look like an important step in Everglades restoration. But,
in fact, it's a pilot project for the northern Everglades - Payment for
Environmental Services Program, under which the South Florida Water
Management District will pay ranchers to store water on their property
during wet season.
