Prison policy changes are working to reduce number of inmates

Maybe you were too busy firing up the grill for the holiday weekend to notice, but Michigan's prison population dropped to the lowest level in 13 years last Friday.

The latest count -- 43,305 -- is 8,000 fewer than in March 2007, when the state locked up a record 51,554 people. Read more.
