The 2010 Sustainable Florida Conference presented by Florida Power & Light, scheduled for October 13-14, gives individuals from businesses, government, universities and communities a chance to exchange ideas and learn more about creating sustainability and a green culture.
Hosted by the Sustainable Florida program of the Collins Center for Public Policy, the affordable two-day conference features speakers and workshops from public and private sectors that offer information on green building, community planning, energy, waste, transportation, sustainable best practices and more.
The conference will feature a keynote presentation from Syd Kitson of Kitson and Partners on the creation of the Smartest City at Babcock Ranch which is to be the world's first solar powered city. Also, speaking will be Bryan Olnick, Vice President at Florida Power & Light, who will talk about the development and solutions offered through smart grid technology. Steve Seibert, Collins Center Vice President for Strategic Visioning, will provide the compelling case for creating the Florida we want today before its too late.
This exciting conference will feature speakers and exhibitors from public and private sectors highlighting their accomplishments, challenges and opportunities in adopting and implementing sustainable development principles. NEW!!!! - 2010 Sustainable Florida Conference - Proposed Schedule
The event evolved from the inaugural Campus & Community Sustainability Conference hosted by the University of Florida in Gainesville in October 2006. That event featured six program tracks, more than 25 exhibitors, and was attended by more than 250 people - students faculty, administrators and private citizens. Florida State University hosted the 2007 event presented by LLT Building Construction where more than 300 attended. The 2009 Conference was hosted by the University of Central Florida and presented by Progress Energy in Orlando had nearly 300 attend. The 2009 event - our senior year - was presented by Tampa Electric Company and Peoples Gas at the Universtiy of South Florida and featured Ed Begley, more than 80 exhibnitors and had more than 300 university, government, private sector and student leaders from across Florida attend.

The Sustainability Conference had more than 300 attend over the two day event and keynote speakers - including Ed Begley, Jr. - were very well received. This conference gave individuals from campuses, government, businesses and communities a chance to come together to share their experiences and challenges related to creating sustainability and a green culture. Presentations focused on matters relating to Florida’s economy, environment, and quality of life.
